My laptop working much slower than when I first got it. I was told by someone that the hard drive probably needs to be changed. These are my specs:

System Manufacturer Dell Inc.
System Model Inspiron 7737
System Type x64-based PC
System SKU Inspiron 7737
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz, 2001 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

Could anyone recommend a hard drive?

That is almost certainly a software issue, but replacing that HDD with an SSD is rarely a bad idea.

Drives don't really become 'slower' over time, physically.
Years of software gunk can make the system run/feel slower.

As above, a Crucial MX500, or Samsung 860 EVO, will make the whole thing snappier.
But...a clone operation from the current drive to the new may just be moving years of gunk to a new drive.

As painful as it may be, consider a fresh install along with the new SSD.

Run a pass of crystal disk info and post a screenshot.

Laptop hard drives are optimized for low power requirements and better battery run times.
Not for performance.
Many are 5400rpm and not the 7200 rpm found in desktops.
If you replace your hdd with a ssd, it will absolutely transform the performance of your laptop.
I have done this with every laptop our family owns.
Here is the easy way.
Buy a samsung 860/870 EVO 2.5" ssd of sufficient capacity to hold the used contents of your C drive.
Plus some for expansion.
Like this 500gb unit:
https://www.newegg.com/samsung-500gb-870-evo-series/p/N82E16820147792?quicklink=true
Buy a usb to sata adapter cable like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Cabl...t=&hvlocphy=9011564&hvtargid=pla-822333677936

Download the samsung ssd migration app and instructions here:

Run the app to copy your C drive to the new ssd.
The original HDD will remain unchanged.

Replace your HDD with the new ssd.
