Hard Drive with 'no media'

I have a CORSAIR OBSIDIAN 650D CC650DW case with an external dock which I use for a hard drive to do backups. This displays as my K drive until yesterday when disk management shows "no media". Recently I installed a new printer (with a USB cable) that now shows under disk drives (it does have a memory slot). I don't recall seeing the old printer there.

Can this be related to the 'no media' message? I don't know how to proceed and would appreciate some guidance.

No yellow triangles.

Just to get a clearer understanding of your setup & problem...

1. Do I correctly assume that you're working with a single internally-connected boot drive - the 120 GB OCZ SSD? And, if so, there's no problem booting to that drive and it functions without any problems? Is all that correct?

2. So the problem is when you connect another drive (presumably another 2 1/2" SSD?) to your Corsair case's external dock that's when the problem arises? And you're saying that Disk Management indicates a drive letter assignment of "K" for that drive?

3. Re the "external dock" integrated in your case...a drive inserted in that dock would be internally-connected (SATA) in the system, right? It's not a USB connection, is it?

4. Or when you refer to an "external dock" are you actually referring to a separate USB external enclosure or "docking station" that you're using?

5. Re this "no media" message in Disk Management...does this relate to the new printer you just installed? Or does this message relate to you external HDD/SSD?

6. Could you provide a clearer picture of just what is displayed in Disk Management?

Yes, the OCZ drive contains the windows installation. Everything has been working well until a couple of weeks after installing the Brother printer when I tried to backup. I have a Hitachi 2TB drive (the K drive) for backups in the dock, now it just doesn't show and I have the "no media"; and yes it's a SATA connection.

I believe the 'no media' referred to the Hitachi, but I could be wrong. I have uninstalled the Brother printer and it now doesn't show under Disk drives in Device Manager, nor does the Hitachi.

So the long & short of your problem is simply that the secondary drive - the Hitachi 2 TB HDD - is not detected in the system, right? Presumably your Brother printer should be operational when it's connected, yes?

Have you tried installing the Hitachi HDD in one of the case's 5 1/4" external bays? I'm puzzled why you've installed that secondary drive in the Corsair case's "external dock". (I was originally under the (mistaken) impression that the external dock (at the top of the case, right?) was designed for 2 1/2" SSDs. I assume that the external dock was basically designed to house a drive "on-the-fly" for temporary duty, so to speak, and not for mounting a secondary SSD/HDD that would be a more-or-less permanent component of the system).

Anyway, connect the Hitachi to a different bay and another SATA port and reconnect your printer.

You are correct that the "external dock" is designed for the standard size hard drive, and I've been using it for the Hitachi to backup every month or so, then take it out. (I have the other bays with hard drives used primarily for a music collection).

All worked fine until the Brother printer was installed. I've uninstalled the printer and just put the Hitachi back into the dock; and it's there as the G drive, in the past it was the K drive. Wish I knew what happened, but I'm going to re-install the printer while the drive is in place to see what if all works.
