Hard Drive works on tv but not Laptop HELP!!

My external hard drive worked fine a week ago today it has stopped working on my laptop. My computer no longer appears as the MANUFAC name but says local disk F: I try to open it, it freezes the CPU or says " /F: is not accesible...the parameter is incorrect" It appears on the device manager

TV might have formatted it or that partition to another file system. What does it show in disk management ?

Disk Management shows...
Disk 1 (f: ) Raw
Read Only
Healthy (primary partition)

Try to make partition in it from disk management but that Read Only may point to it being bad or locked.

Do you need the data stored on the drive? In case you do, my suggestion would be to use some data recovery tool in order to retrieve the data stored on the drive: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
After that, you can test it with some of these: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
The results should show you if there is something wrong with it.

Usually, a computer freezes like this when the drive being accessed is failing.

@d know wd yes I would like to recover most of the files if possible. I downloaded EaseUs it was No help. The files would download but we're either empty or unplayable. After looking around on the Internet I found Linux reader and recovery. The reader works!!! I was able to get a few files from it. The reader is not working now it's saying the files are empty now. But when I plug it into the TV I can see the files and play videos perfectly fine. What is going on??

As I said before, most probably TV formatted and reserved partition. If you don't want to save files you can try to delete that partition or maybe even shrink it with something like this : http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/active_partition_manager.html or at least find out which kind of partition and format are. Obviously something windows doesn't recognize.

If the TV can read the disk fine, don't bother running file recovery utilities. The files are there just the computer can't see it.

Boot off a Linux Live disk (I like Knopix for this) and see if that will read the files. You can then copy the files from the disk. Another thing that may be happening is that the laptop lost drivers to read the drive controller, have you tried it on another computer?

Hang-the-9 Thanks for helping out founding a solution for this problem. I just download a 4GB file that run Knopix and withount knowing what to do with that, it just started to run... anyway i found that it has create a new disk image , a dvd rom in my computer. (i dont have a dvd rom) anyway i want to permanetly delete this'' 4gb dvd rom''

Not sure what you did with that file, maybe you created a virtual disk drive that you mounted. Without knowing exactly what you did, can't say what to do so you can un-do it. Need to have someone near you that knows about computers look at what is going on.

I fixed it.
I press the eject on the virtual dvd drive and then i deleted the iso file from the downloads folder.
