Hard Drived crashed can i use old windows 7 cd key with out cd

is there any way after my friends hard drived crashing to use the same windows 7 key and also download windows 7 putting on a disc and him not paying for a new key

Make sure that you download the correct one. If you get the wrong edition, the key will be useless.
