Hello, today while i was cleaning my pc, i dropped my harddrive from table, it's an 8tb harddrive so i am pretty scared, after connecting it to my pc, is running pretty fine, and it has no errors, but did i shorted it's lifetime or it's all ok ?
Most of the newer drives have a preventative system that get your R&W headstack go into parking position if the drive goes airborne. There should be any problem if your drive is working fine after the drop, this means the system worked great. I would though definitely back up the most critical files, just in case.
Long odds that you shortened its lifetime, but no real way to tell. Either way, you should have backups, so that at the inevitable moment somewhere down the line when it fails you can still use your data.
