Hello i recently purchased a used gaming computer with Nvidia GeForce 9800GT etc but itdoesnt come with a hard drive and i am not really knowledgable person when it comes to computers, but it needs a IDE drive but the one i brought doesnt have the ribbon cable thing so myquestion is can i just buy any cable for the HD or does it need to be specific because the ones im looking at are like ATA 100/133 and other dont say.
:ange: thanks

the ultra ide cables which are 80 connectors (40x2) are backwards compatable with the older stuff. So I would get that (not sure if they still sell the older 40 only cables) On most of them there will be one end that should be blue, that one connects to the motherboard. remember to ground yourself before touching the motherboard or chips. either use a grounding strap or in a pinch touch the case to discharge static. it should only plug into the board in one direction. look at the cable one edge will have some printing. When plugging into the drive that edge should be towards the power plug of drive.

Any maxtor drive I would stay clear of these days, if it's a 60gb then most likely it's a diamond max 9 or 10, both of which are over 7 years old and will have likely bad sectors.
