Hardrive controller card

I have a questions.. If I buy a ATA/100 hardrive controller card so that I can put more IDE device to my computer does the computer detect the harddrive right away

For example.. If I start it from ground zero.. I only hooked up a harddisk to the controller card on the motherboard.. will the bios detect the harddrive..

Your motherboard's bios won't detect the hard drive. The controller card has it's own bios that will do that. Make sure that you have you motherboard's bios set to Auto for the primary master, primary slave, secondary master and secondary slave. Some cards will even require that that setting be set to off, although my promise goes for auto.
