Ok, I'm going to replace the fan that my v8 heatsink currently has. I'm looking to hit 4.2GHz on my 920 with maximum cooling. Do you guys think this is a good choice:

Delta QFR1212GHE-PWM 120mm Case Fan - Retail (6000RPM, 210.38 CFM, 64 dBA)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835706022

I guess my only concern is noise, I'm not exactly sure how loud 64 dBA is.... But I do know that the stock V8 fan only pushes out 69.69 CFM at 2000RPM.... So this definately looks like a good buy..... Should I go for it?

Yeah, i figured it would be somewhat loud.. but man, at that air flow, im wondering if i could push a 920 up to 4.8

4.8? Stable? Good luck. You'll need a lot more than air to do that with. The V8 isn't exactly the best cooler as it is. A Core Contact Freezer would have been a better choice. Plus, it's pretty cheap right now, so if you've got the clearance in your case, I'd go for one of those, and if you've got a full tower and about twice as much money to spend, I'd go for a Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme.

If you want to go above 4.2GHz then drop the V8 altogether - the heatsink itself isn't fantastic, so biggers fans will only do so much.

You're looking at a Megahalems/Mega Shadow or Ultra 120 Extreme Rev C/TRUE Black Rev C with a good pair of high-pressure 120mm fans in push/pull to get that high.

Also it will depend on the quality of your CPU - if JackNaylor hit 4.4 with his 920 then he had a very good one.

Doesn't the V8 have a 120x25mm fan in the center? Will there be enough room for a 38mm to fit?

I also see its a pwm fan I hope you don't plan on powering it off your MB. I see it draws 2.7 amps and I would guess the MB header isn't rated for more than 1amp.

I also would agree that you would be better off getting a better HS like as was suggested TRUE, Mega, VX or a Noctua NH-D14
