Hy everybody.
Do you know if VIA KT890 or Intel 925XE have hardware firewall ?
One last question : Do you know if DEP (Data Execution Prevention)is active on every Intel or AMD processors or only on AMD64 processors ?
Thank you for your time.

To my knowledge, no and no on the hardware firewalls. I could easily be wrong though as I haven't studied either chipset in any depth.

As for your DEP, it's called something different by everyone of course, but basically only new stuff has it. Some new Intel chips have it. A64 and up from AMD should all have it. (I think. Again, I could be wrong. No one is perfect.)

The DEP bits is there in either of the processor, it is up tu the OS to use it or no. SP2 enable this feature so it should work with both CPU.

I had some problem with it and certain mpeg codec.. I had to set an exception for some of my apps.

Only the nForce 3/4 series of chipsets include a hardware firewall. I've not heard of any other chipset maker attempting this. As for DEP, only AMD64's and the newer Intel's (6xx series) take advantage of it, but the OS (XP with SP2) can do a software version of DEP without the hardware assist. Not as effective, but better than nothing I suppose. Of course, being completely paranoid about viruses and using a good virus scanner (NOD32 is my current fave) and not using Intenet Exploiter (I prefer Opera) gives you much better chances of avoiding a virus.
