I want to setup two disks as a RAID 1 array (mirrored) and am considering my options (i.e. doing it in Windows as a dynamic drive - which is a software solution - or using my Motherboard RAID controller - which is a hardware solution).
I've read online that a hardware solution is preferred because it is more robust - which makes sense... but I've also read online that you can't migrate a RAID array between PCs if it uses the Motherboard controller so if you have any kind of problem with your Motherboard then your files are lost.
On the other hand I've read that you can migrate dynamic disks that have been set up under windows from one PC to another using the import foreign disk option in the disk management tool. So that would make a software RAID solution seem safer to me.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone out there has any thoughts on which path is better and if the info that I've read online is accurate.
Thanks.
