Hardware Overheating problem HELP!

My question is in regards to my Laptop (Acer Aspire 7736G) which I have had for 4 years (give or take). It previously has had problems of rebooting unexpectedly, which was diagnosed as a overheating problem and resulted in the motherboard being replaced by PC World (Which was quoted £120!!).
For a while this fixed the problem but now the issue is repeating itself and the laptop turns itself off after being used for more than 20 minutes and the start-up and general speed of basic tasks are extremely slow comparing to when I first bought it (Which for a 2.2 GHz T6600 Intel Core Duo processor with 4gbs RAM is DEFINITELY NOT NORMAL!!! #ExtemelyFrustrating!!)

I fear there is a deeper issue involving the CPU overheating and in-turn overheating the motherboard and frying both in the process (which PC World failed to detect any CPU issue at all :/ and simply repaced the motherboard) .

My question is should I replace the CPU and motherboard to fix it once and for all which should be cheaper than buying a brand new laptop or scrap it for parts and ebay the parts individualy ?

P.S. The new laptop equivalent would set me back around £500 ish (I need at least an i5 cpu and 17.3 inch screen)

You can use "RealTemp" or "CPUTemp" to see if the temps are really the issue. If so, you could Google "aftermarket laptop coolers" and see if one will make a difference.

Otherwise, I doubt replacing the mobo and CPU on a 4-year-old laptop will be cost effective. Unless you know someone really good who will do it on the cheap.
