So I installed some new memory and now have 12 gb of memory but I only have 3.95 gb usable and my task manager says 8 gb of the memory is hardware reserved,is there anyway to fix this?

Solution
Look at msconfig->boot tab->advanced settings, see if the max.mem. is unchecked.
Look into the bios and look for "memory remapping",see if this is enabled.

I assume you have a 64bit windows running ...

Did you mix ram to get to 12gb?

Maybe give some system specs,

download hwinfo32,
install and open it=click run,
close the top window which is the system summary,
at the left top click "save report",
at the bottom of the next window check "short text report",
after that you'll see what's in the pc,
copy by clicking "copy to clipboard" and rightclick+paste in your next respons
