Hardwired and Wifi Speeds dropped Dramatically

Recently I ran into some issues and had to run extension cords from another room for both my router and modem. Around the same time I believe my internet speeds have dropped dramatically. Hardwired and Wifi seem to be about the same in comparison. Videos and such seem okay, but online games def. lag enough to be unplayable. Checking on beta.speedtest.net I'm getting anywhere from <1mbps-4 download speed, when I should be/was getting 90. Was wondering if using such long cables could slow down the power to the devices and hurt my connection? My router is also getting quite old I believe, could that be the culprit of the slow speeds I am getting?

Couple times the while checking it had jumped up to ~40-60mbps for a couple of minutes. 95% of the time its extremely low though.

Any suggestions help!

Because maybe there is an issue with your modem and its not providing internet access? Call your ISP.

The only way this is not the case is if there is an issue with the laptop you used to test it (such as a static ip in the network adaptor or some other problem) or your modem is set to use a static IP and not DHCP.

In either case. Try calling your ISP first to have them check the modem and make sure it is working properly.
Best way to check would be to bypass the router and connect to the modem directly. If you run a speed test do you get better results (aka closer to what you pay for)? If so then it is most likely your router. Get it replaced.

Make sure when you do the test to disconnect your router and have a laptop or desktop be the only thing plugged into the modem during the speed test.
