While we're skeptical as to how well this phone will sell, units are apparently flying off the shelves.
You meant to write, "Though we were skeptical as to how well this phone would sell, units are apparently flying off the shelves."

Seriously, if you need a $2000+ personal communicator we need to raise your income tax. You clearly have too much money which is affecting your sanity :)

Just a way for the ultra wealthy to show off. Thing is, aside from the enthusiasts like those who read this article, It will appear to be just another phone unless they make sure to tell everyone what it is and what they paid for it... So nevermind, the narcissistic who buy it cant stand anyone around them not knowing who they are and what their status is.
Its no different than a celeb buying a phone studded with diamonds, that is except for the fact that the diamond studded phone is actually worth the money spent on it and they can take those diamonds back out when done using it!

Porsche should tread carefully associating themselves with RIM. If Porsche is trying to get into the luxury industrial design market, to milk out their name a bit, starting with BlackBerries is a baaaad move.

I bet it will be wildly successful. As Apple has shown, hype and moronery is far more important than substance. Welcome to the new normal con-artist Jobs unleashed on the clueless.

Ummm, I dont think so. More of a way for the ultra-dumb to let the world know they are really dumb. As if the Apple logo were not enough to achieve the same end.

It's a blackberry...it could never be worth more than $300. Unless it was made out of gold or platinum. Status symbol? No. Its a blackberry, it could never be a status symbol and if anyone knew what you paid for it they'd just think you were a dumb@$$.

[citation][nom]iam2thecrowe[/nom]no, just for people with too much money.[/citation]

You can get a 911 for less than 40k if you know where to look.

It really makes me sad to see there are people who will spend $1,700 on an average high-end phone. People with that kind of money could actually gather a couple friends together and use that money to actually do something BIG that's good--instead they just throw it out on a device they'll throw out in 8 months anyways.

It would be nice if the super wealthy got as much satisfaction out of making people happy/helping people as they do out of blowing money on worthless junk to outspend their friends and showoff.
