Question Has anyone gone from 27" 4K (ideally FALD) to 27" QHD OLED?

My evil side is trying to talk myself into buying the LG 27" OLED 240Hz monitor but my good side keeps arguing that it might not be as much of an upgrade as I'd hope (especially given it is £850) given that I have a 27" Acer X27P 4K FALD screen currently.

The change from 4K to 1440p - in addition to the WOLED text fringing issue - does concern me a bit, but I can't get a look at one of these monitors before making the decision to buy or not. My X27P has excellent text clarity (I use 150% scaling).

Has anyone made a similar transition?

I am going to assume you are referring to the LG Ultragear OLED Monitor, in which case, I have used the 45" version for about a week. With regards to your concerns about text fringing - yes, it is noticeable. But realistically, because 80% of my PC usage is gaming, it is never something I lose sleep over. Having infinite contrast ratio and perfect response time is well worth the trade-off. Switching from 4K back to 1440p is another thing you will likely notice, but in my opinion, gaming at 4K is unrealistic. Getting slightly higher resolution that you are unlikely to notice in fast paced gaming, while also kneecapping frame rates is not a worthwhile investment. On the other hand, you could simply keep your old monitor and use the LG monitor whenever you fire up a game. But that is something you will have to decide. What I can say for certain is you will notice the better blacks, perfect pixel response time and extremely low input lag. It's up to you if you want to shell out that much cash for a monitor. Take care.

Thank you very much for the thoughts, they sound very promising to me!

My use-case is a bit more mixed and less gaming focused - I'd say more like 20% gaming and then about 40% media consumption, the rest being more "desktop" type stuff. I like having 4K for occasional photo editing and video editing too.

For various reasons I am very tempted to keep the X27P and add the LG 27" OLED - I measured it and it would just about fit on my desk with a double monitor arm (which I happen to already have lying around)... don't know how multi-monitor setups work for playing games etc. - can they be defaulted to one screen automatically I wonder?
