Has anyone tried the patch?

I've been trying but the dumb thing stops responding each time I try to
install it. Argh!

Be sure to put the Sims 2 cd/dvd in the drive (kind of unusual for a
patch)

and make sure that you have an original .exe, that is, you don't have
a no-cd version or one that wiped out the censor blur

I don't have any no cd or censor patches. It looks like the first one was
just corrupt or soemthing because I got a fresh version and it installed.

Same here, just spent ages downloading it and it stops half way through

Did it make a backup? (I didn't use it myself, I just added the
censorgrid size thing to my cheat startup file)

If not, then the original .exe is on disk 4, in a big zip file called
"compressed.zip"

Hmmm. Could be.

I also read on the official board that sometimes if you get that
error, you just need to take cd 4 out and put cd 1 back in.

Go figure. But glad you worked it out.

Me too! Are you getting the "Error during update installation!" thingy?
I've sent a problem report to EAGames and I should hear something within a
day or so. The patch wrecks the game instead of fixing it right now.
GRRRRRRRRRR!

Holy shite! That's what it was. I guess I'll have to cancel my problem
report at EA now. LOL You wouldn't happen to know if you can put the
censor version back after installing the patch would you?

Go to alt.binaries.games.the-sims-2 and download Jeremy's cheat file.
That includes the no-blur cheat.

I did what Madame Mim suggested, I copied the Sims.exe.bak form the programs
file to the desktop I renamed it and put it back, it worked. The patch
installed.

when I renamed it I renamed it Sims.exe, it copied over the other one and
worked perfectly.

Jeremy posted one in alt.binaries.games.the-sims-2.

OK, so, I have the DVD version, and the no-blur patch, and the update
won't install. So, um, what should I do? Is there a kind soul out
there who can talk me through it? I'm not real intelligent.

The no-blur patch should have created a file called Sims2.exe.bak in
your The Sims 2\TSBin folder (in program files, not in My Documents).
Copy that file to your desktop or somewhere, rename it Sims2.exe, and
put that in the TSBin folder in place of the one that's there. Then
try installing the Maxis patch.

What happened was, the no-blur .exe altered the Sims2.exe file, so the
Maxis patch doesn't recognize it.

Nope. I don't have one. Can some kind soul email me one?

Does the DVD have a big ol' file named "Compressed.zip"? (The CD-Rom
version does on disc 4, so I would imagine the DVD is basically the
same, just all on one disc). There should be a Sims2.exe in that (it's
just a zip file)

Installed patch last night along with no blur patch.
So far it's working (got rid of the 'jump' and a boatload of other
problems.)

Just keep trying
