I see that with my new sabertooth z97 Mark 2 there is a program called ez update and it looks like it wants to update my bios. Is this the same as when people talk about flashing their bios? This program looks painfully easy to update with so I want to be sure I'm not going to mess anything up. I've heard people say the software that comes with some motherboards is crap and can sometimes permanently screw up your board.

Flashing bios and EZ Flash and EZ Update are all the same, it means to update your motherboard chip with a new program or version of bios.

EZ Update is a part of Asus AI Suite package, an easy way to update motherboard software, Bios as well as drivers inside Windows OS. You can do it automatic on manual update in EZ update tweak.

You can also update bios in UEFI (bios) via EZ flash, just download Bios update in Asus website and save it somewhere you can easily find, then go uefi>tools> look for EZ Flash utility > search for the Bios file you downloaded.

Your Asus Sabertooth z97 has USB Bios Flashback as well. You update your bios without entering existing Bios or Windows OS.. Save a bios update in your USB, insert the USB to the usb...

People used to use the update program for ASUS mobos years ago and did it the wrong way.

They checked for updates online and then 1/2 way through flashing the BIOS it used to freeze the system. Result bricked mobo

But its probably a lot easier to bring it back to life now. Since you've got Crashfree BIOS

But I usually use ez flash. I dont install any of the ASUS programs like AI suite, or Aicharger / whatever. Most of them tend to crash a system, sooner or later
