Haswell-E Vs. Devils Canyon

For gaming, not encoding, not photoshop...just gaming. Which CPU is the way to go? I mainly play Planetside 2, may do some Arch Age, BF4, etc etc/

I7-5820K - Haswell E. 3.3ghz base and 3.5ghz turbo clock. 6/12 cores. 28 pci lanes and 2133 quad channel ddr4 ram running at 140W. $389.59 on Amazon.

I7-4790K - Haswell/Devils Canyon. 4Ghz base and 4.4ghz turbo clock. 38 pci lanes (am I right?) and DDR3-1333/1600 duel channel ram. $336.99 at amazon.

I realize I need new ram if I go Haswell E. I am going to stick with my Radeon 7970Ghz for another year at least.

So, which direction?

The i7 is already overkill for gaming. The i5-4690K is enough at the moment.
Spending hundreds of dollars extra on a Haswell-E CPU and hundreds more to support it with a X99 mobo and DDR4 RAM is just not worth it for gaming.

The 4790k is currently the fastest CPU for gaming in anything that can't utilize more than 4 cores (i.e. ~95% of games currently out). Also, it only has 16 PCI lanes, so you can only do up to 3-way CFX or 2-way SLI unless you buy a more expensive board with a PLX chip.

TLDR

Go Devil's Canyon, equal/sometimes superior gaming performance to Haswell-E with less energy consumption and heat output.

What about a Intel Core i7-4770K to the i5 (Devils Canyon)?

They reach the same clocks at different temps and slight diff. in power right? Are the new instructions and L Cache worth it for gamers?

I've asked in my own thread since I haven't had a chance to read up.

Absolutely no performance advantage. Clocked at the same 4.4GHz, a 4770k is on par with a 4790k, the new instructions don't do anything for games.

Thank you. I bought an Open Box 4790k from Amazon and saved $35
Going to try and resuse my Thermalright VenomX if I kept the bracket kit for socket 115x.
The i7-4770K was cheaper (used) than a new i7 4790k by $45 so there went the i5. I like the extra cache for the $70 difference I paid. The 500MHz is there already so no OC needed.

Now I'm just bragging! lol
