Hey guys, i have been playing alot of bf4 lately and looked at my cpu temps. They are on about 30 Degrees normal but when i play bf4 they go up to 60-65 are these normal temps for bf4? will it ruin my cpu for long term at that temperature?
These are other specs:
Motherboard: Msi Z87-G45-Gaming
Processor: Intel i5-4670k
Cooler: NZXT T40 Respire Cooler (1 Fan only)
Video Card: R9-270X Windforce.

Solution
Hi,
The temperatures are ok while gaming, but they should be for about 10C lower, when using that aftermarket cooler. I have the CM Hyper TX3 Evo, which is in category with the NZXT T40, and my temperatures while gaming are 50-55c. It also depends if your CPU is overclocked, what case do you have, and do you live in hot environment.

My CPU is not overclocked. I have a Aerocool StrikeX Xtreme (Black) and yes I do live in a moderately hot environment. Should i look into getting a new heatsink? putting another fan on my heatsink? or just leaving it?

You can leave it like this, since 60-65 is not something serious to worry about. If you want lower temperatures, you can get the CM Hyper 212Evo, one of the best air coolers for the price ($29). That one should be able to lower your temperatures for about 7-10C form the NZXT T40. Btw the summer is coming now in a month or so, so additional cooling power will come in handy.

Also, some other questions
-How much thermal paste did you apply on the CPU?
-Is the NZXT T40 properly installed?

I live in the southern hemisphere so winter is coming for me, also I did put the stock heatsink on the CPU and the removed it, applied Isoprophyl Alchohol to remove the Thermal paste and reapplied the new thermal paste and heatsink, and only a few weeks ago i re-tightened the screws for my heatsink so im quite sure it is properly installed. I havent cleaned my pc in about 14 weeks so there is probably dust in it. Also it runs at like 40 degrees on Skyrim Ultra.

Hmmm, 40C while playing Skyrim is pretty good. So it looks like only BF4 is working your CPU pretty hard. Again 60-65 is nothing to worry about. Btw those temperatures are lasting for a gaming session (i assume of 1-2 hours), so the rest of the day the CPU temps are low.

Solution

the max i have probs played is like 2hrs every 3 days, im only lvl 10 right now so yeh im not intensive gamer in that part. But thanks for helping me out maurelie

Having a TJMax of 105°C, I wouldn't worry too much about 60° temperatures. Haswell and Ivy both run extremely hot. It's a result of the newer technology and/or the removal of flux-less solder from the CPU die to heat spreader.

Considering you are in a hot ambient environment, 60 doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Your idle temp around 30° is right where it should be, and that leads me to believe your heatsink was installed properly.

One thing you might try, whether you overclock or not, is using a fixed voltage. From my experience, my ivy bridge CPU asks for more voltage than it needs to be stable.. Reduce the voltage, reduce the heat.

Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you bought a better cooler that would probably help. If your temperatures were running 70-80 during gaming I would say there is something horribly wrong, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over 60 during CPU intensive games.

PS if you are really worried about it you can buy insurance for your CPU for around 15$ from Intel if I'm not mistaken...

With a Tjmax or Max core temp of 105C means the case temp max will be about 80C. The closer you get to this case temp, the less cpu life you will have.

But 65C isn't too bad, but it could be better. If it was me I'd have a go at trying a custom fan profile and if that didn't work then re-seating the current cpu cooler and if that made no difference I'd look at a better cooler - like the CM Hyper 212 evo.
