BIOSI Oc'd my i5 4670k cpu to 4.2 at 1.225 volt. and it looks pretty stable. But I am very new to overclocking and this was my first try. I have been running it for 2 days no throttling, good performance and no heat issues while gaming. in AIDA64 after 30 mins the max it hit was 86 degrees, average was 74-78. is this stable. yes I am running a phanteks cooler. everything good?

Solution

Going up by 0.01v is probably not enough for clockspeeds this high.
You should increase the voltage in 0.01v increments until the temps get too high or your computer is stable.

For 24/7 use i would not go much higher... 86°C is still okay (even though already a bit high) but higher temps would not be good...
For myself i like to ALWAYS keep the CPU at a MAX of 80°C when running a Prime95 Stresstest...
This way i know my CPU is always nice and chilly during gaming and i never need to worry about temps

Try it out and see what the temps are. If your temps during stress testing are consistently above 80C, then you should either back down your overclock or get a better cooler.

my pc restarted yesterday when playing arma with out BSOD, and today battlefield 1 with BSOD ("we're jsut collecting info and restart for you"). The cpu wasn't throttling im pretty sure The temps were were fine under 75 i think for cpu and gpu, I monitor with rivatuner. I changed the voltage from 1.225 to 1.235, is that enough?
