Haswell Temperature Problem

I have an Intel i7 4770K clocked at 4.2Ghz and cooled using a Cooler Master Seidon 120M Cooler. The VCore is at 1.2V

I have the following two important issues with this:

1. When I do stress testing using prime95 and even in general use the Core1 (i.e. the second core of the CPU) is always the hottest by 5 degrees Celsius. The Prime95 temps go to about 84 for that core and remain below 79 for the other three. During normal non-intensive use also that core reaches around 61 degrees max and the other stay around 56 degrees max. Why does this problem occur? or is it a problem?

2. When I run the intel burn test at this settings then the temps touch 100 degrees Celsius causing thermal throttling within minutes. However when I run prime95 even for several hours the temperatures never cross 85 (for the hottest core and 80 for the rest) Why does this happen. What does the intel burn test do that the temps go through the roof?
It may be noted that the 'hot core' is the one which hits 100 degrees first and very quickly while the others remain at around 92.

3. The processor is running on the Maximus VI Hero motherboard from Asus. It comes with the AI Suite 3 Software that helps overclock and monitor the temps and fans. That software is pathetic. It shows that CPU temperature to be around 65 when HWMonitor shows them to be around 90 during the intel burn test. Even with the Prime95 running this software is very misleading. Is the software generally like this or there is a problem with the way I am operating it?

So, is the 4.2Ghz overclock with this a safe overclock considering the fact that the intel burn test can make the temps go to hundred.

I have a strong feeling that I may have messed up the application of the TIM and that is what is causing one core to run hotter that the rest. Please advice

The following is the link to the CPU Cooler website if you need it. It is running with the stock fan in pull configuration exhausting air from the cabinet.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Solution
Well, you should try to remount with new paste. Clean off the old paste with alcohol if you don't have cleaning solution.

-Apply a pea-sized drop of paste in middle of processor then when you put down heat-sink, move it around a bit in rubbing motion to spread it a bit, then tighten it down. -This has always worked the best for me.

-IBT always runs hotter than prime95.

-Do not use the software to overclock! Use the UEFI BIOS!

-See if you can lower than v-core a bit in increments of -0.05, this should help with the temperatures at load. Find your lowest stable voltage.

- I don't really think your "crap-master" product is doing a good job if it is mounted correct.

-Put the fan in push configuration to exhaust out the case.
