Haswell is a newer micro-architecture, and introduced some changes which improved performance, e.g. extra arithmetic units, faster cache, better memory controller, etc - thus, it's faster at the same clock speed. While haswell is not a big enough of an improvement to upgrade from an existing ivy-bridge computer, there is no benefit in building an ivy-bridge computer over haswell. The older ivy-bridge parts will be more expensive as well as slightly slower and a dead socket.
well i heard good things about how it was one of the best motherboards @ 200USD
should have gotten a ROG mobo or a Sabertooth (i already have a sound card)so i went with that.
sabertooth has the exact same power dilvery as all the Z77 ROG MOBO which is a nice plus
Exception is the Formula it is different from everything else
one thing i learnt is they make great cards but their QC on their motherboards is S*** should just stick to asrock (for 135/100 usd) anything above that is Asus territory
Z97/H97 will support Broadwell too so buying Ivy Bridge at this point is like adopting a deal mule.
And holy, I couldn't agree more. They make good GPUs but their motherboards are not my favorite. Not the worst but not the best by any means. Great design team though. I bought the Maximus HERO VII and I love it so much.
Going with Ivy Bridge would have been an idea back when Haswell was just coming out - a Haswell setup for me would have cost an extra $50+. Nowadays, Ivy Bridge is a dead socket and you'd be very lucky to find a decent CPU/motherboard for it as it's gone out of production. Not exactly an expert in motherboards as I've only built one PC and no upgrades so far but I have an ASRock and it's going well.
well gotta agree MSI was the first motherboard with a matte black PCB (imo was the best looking z77 board) and i had a red/black/yellow theme going
oh well i would go with haswell+asrock motherboard if u want something bellow 140usd @ 200USD get the VII hero(has awesome sound card too which is a plus) !
