Have 8 gb ram, but only 2,96 gb is available! Help plz!

I have 8 gb (2x4gb) of hyper x blu ram, but only 2,96 gb is detected. I have 64 bit Windows ultimate and a gigabyte a970-ds3p motherboard. I dont know what the problem is. I have tried to swap slots but it didn't help. Anyone know how to fix it?

Have you tested each RAM module separately? Is each of them detected as 4 gb?

Yes I have, same thing happened, only 2,96 gb is availeble.

Check in msconfig/boot/advanced options if maximum memory unchecked.

Now i can use 3,96 gb ram. But not 8 :/

Same with each RAM stick?
If yes, try clearing the CMOS (unplug the power cord and remove the CMOS battery for a minute).

When i only had one stick in, it wouldn't boot up, it just entered sleep mode.

If no boot with that stick in each slot, then it might be a defective RAM.

I tried to switch sticks, then it worked, but when i tried the first one again, it worked, and now when i have both in, i can use 6,96 gb.

And when i put each stick in individually, i can use all 4 gb.
