Have a HP with Windows 8 and i cant get the desktop to launch

Have Hp Computer, downloaded something and went to restart computer. Desktop wont launch, black screen can any one help?

First of all, we need to know what happened exactly. What did you download, what changes did you make throughout the whole day? We need to diagnose the problem before applying a solution. Also, if you downloaded anything you think was risky or sketchy, please say so. For now, just try to do a hard restart again (physically press the restart button on the case or hold down the power button if there is no restart button)
