I don't really expect anyone to know the answer to this, but you never know.

The news item on the front page of Tom's Hardware about a vulnerability in WinRAR got me to check what version I have and turns out I have the ancient 5.70. My understanding is (am I wrong here?) that you should generally avoid installing and uninstalling too many programs because junk builds up in the registry, so I'm looking for a way to update RAR instead of uninstalling and installing, but I can't find that functionality. It doesn't seem to be there, not even when I search in Help.

Am I missing it or does it really not exist?

Also, if I download the latest version, do I need to uninstall first or will it update if I run the installer in the folder of the current installation?

I use 7zip for RAR files. Avoid the problem.

hello, you don't have to uninstall anything, just download the latest version and install it, it will overwrite, without deleting anything
