Have GTX 1080 can't decide between i5 and i7

I can't choose between an i5 or i7 mainly because I have a gtx 1080 plus a motherboard with a 1150 socket. I would just get an i5 if I could get the really good i5-6600k but the best I can get is an i5-4690k. I also took a look at benchmark graph for CPU's with a 1080 for overwatch and it seemed like with an i7 you get around 50 more frames than an i5. That's just overwatch though so I don't know if it matters with other games.

However...while the i7 technically does provide 50+ more FPS with a GTX 1080 (at 1080p resolutions), your i5 is able to hit 180 FPS. That's way faster than any 144hz monitor will be able to show. And with that scaling, the i5 should be able to hit 120-135 FPS at 1440p resolutions.

Unless your monitor can hit refresh rates where those FPS will even matter, you won't see any real benefit to having an i7 over the i5.
with any games that can use 4 cores then I7 will be the better choice otherwise it will bottleneck the I5 but as far as im aware Overwatch only uses 2 cores (i could be wrong) so there shouldn't be 50 fps difference, where did you find this benchmark ?
 
It depends on what game you'll be playing. There are a ton of articles on hardwaresecrets where they look at CPU impact in certain mainstream games like Dirt and DOOM. In most cases though, I would go with a high end i5. The 4690k is a solid chip for just about anything you can throw at it.
