Question Have I got a dead CPU?

Afternoon all,

Just some quick information so you know where I stand.

Asus H81M-K mobo with the latest BIOS update of 3604 - this item was purchased last weekend at a yard sale.

The problem I'm having is that the MoBo bundle came with a 4400 and 16gb of 1600mhz ram which run perfectly but I was recently given a 4770 from my uncle and that CPU will post but I instantly get no signal.

When I enter the BIOS setting with the i5 4400 it states that the 16gb are running perfectly so I take it the only other option is the CPU is dead?

Many thanks.

What you could try, is plugging dedicated GPU into the system (e.g GTX 750/1050) and look if you can get image then. If not even then, i7-4770 is toast.

But if you already have dedicated GPU in the system, pull it out and plug your monitor to your MoBo. Look if you get an image.

Unfortunately I've tried both with no luck... Still no signal.

That really sucks, sold my last rig to pay for a few debts family owed so was hoping is strike lucky. I guess a 4 core is still sort of capable though.

It is most unusual to see a defective Intel processor.
Particularly one that has worked before.

When you say it posts, does that mean that you can get into the bios and see something?
Or, does it mean that it looks like all is well but you get no video output.
I assume that your monitor is connected to the motherboard video output.

It is not clear to me if your problem is getting into the bios with the 4770 or if you get no display when windows loads.

There may be some setting in the bios when running the 4400 that is stopping the 4770.
Reset the bios and see how you do.

Sorry I wasn't very clear on that. With the 4770 the PC will turn on but no signal at all via VGA through the motherboard or graphics card also tried the HDMI via card.

Everything works fine with the 4400 in, I don't think it's a power issue as I'm using a 700w PSU and I'm pretty sure a single 4 pin connector is capable of 150w and the CPU is 85w.

I suppose resetting the BIOS could work haven't tried that yet. Thanks

Thanks for the advice, it was something as simple as clearing the BIOS facepalm
