Have I made the right choice?

I was planning to upgrade from my i5 3470 cpu.
There were two options I could choose:

1. i7 4790 + z87-g55 mobo
2. i5 6600 + micro-atx mobo + 8gb ddr4 ram

I'm most of the time not really gaming, and gaming once in a while (more precisely waiting for black desert to come out in my country). I chose to go with the 4790 for a little more future proof for additional 50$.

Solution
That's part of why it would depend on what motherboard; there are some microATX boards with two PCIe slots on them that would allow Crossfire.
Personally, I'd be more interested in the chipset, and the number and types of ports. For example, I wouldn't want a H110 board, but there are plenty of nice H170 boards available, or Z170. Even B150 might be decent enough.
IMHO, future-resistance is more determined by number and type of ports than just by the CPU. Modern CPUs are sufficiently powerful that they are not likely to prevent someone from running a current program, even if some are a little faster than others. Not having a USB3.1 or Thunderbolt port, however might prevent some peripherals from ever being used, and a M.2 slot will...

Then why are you making this thread? So if people agree with your choice, you're assured it was right, but if people disagree, you shun them? You shouldn't have asked if you made the right choice after you bought it and not welcome any opposition.

When did I "not welcome" their opinion? I simply stated that I already went with i7.
I opened this thread just to ask if it was an okay choice or not.

If I went with the 6600, I would of got an micro atx mobo which means I cannot CFX gpu in the future.

True I read you a bit wrongly 😛

If I went with the 6600, I could go with b150m bazooka.
