Been on the lookout for an nvidia 3060 for a while but without paying massively over the odds I’ve not been able to find one so opted for a Zotac GeForce RTX 3060 which cost me £490, I’ve also got a ryzen 7 5700g to go into my new build.
Should I have spent a bit more and got the 5800 chip ? Is this GPU worth the money.

it boggles my mind

If the RTX3060 came just now while the APU was in your system prior to the GPU purchase, then no, it wasn't a waste. If you did buy them all in one go(on the same day) then yes you should've gone with a processor, not the APU, in fact you'd have been able to get away with a Ryzen 5 5600X.

Rest of the specs to your buiild?

Thanks both, that’s made me feel much better, just see some reviews that this combo struggles with 4k gaming with some pretty low FPS numbers but I’ve only got a 1080p monitor

That's simply because of the GPU. The 3060 is an excellent GPU, but it's about on the level of a 2070, which also isn't really a 4K GPU. I'd personally not really start thinking 4K until you're in the territory of the 3060 Ti or 2080 Super or an RX 6800 (there's a surprisingly big performance jump from 3060 to 3060 Ti).
