Have you ever played the old classic Jazzjackrabbit 2? The game has been developed a lot in recent years. Members of the community has for a long time improved the game.
If you will get or already have this game then I highly recommend to try JJ2+ which is the further development I'm talking about. And there will probably be a new version soon. There are also a lot of tournaments (mostly in the CTF gamemode).

It has quite the unique gameplay and multiplayer elements. I highly recommend anyone who's looking for a fresh new gameplay experience to check this out.

I play it from time to time, competitive online games require a lot of strategy and I usually use voice communication during team games, it's quite fun.

I play it very often, and have been playing it regularly for the last 4-5 years.
I find unorganized games the most fun to play, in gamemodes like Jailbreak or Last Rabbit Standing.
Custom gamemodes like Assault or Assassination are fun too, although not hosted very often.
JJ2 is in my oppinion the best 2D sidescrolling shooter, with various gamemodes, levels/maps (you can even make your own!) and fun.
