Looks good,

I've noticed everyone going in on AMD again for cpu's. Those ryzens stand up to intel's in terms of gaming just as good, or is it mostly based on price?

The Intel is slightly faster... But the difference in performance is not big enough to justify going for Intel for the higher price, most of the time. That additional $100 can go into the graphics card instead, and make the system faster than the Intel one anyway. Add in the fact that you can use future CPUs on the AM4 platform to give you an upgrade path to a potential 16C/32T CPU in the future, and it becomes a very appealing choice to go for Ryzen.

Good info, thanks for the suggestion

There are already games that can max all or nearly max out all 6 cores of the current i5’s. As games support of extra threads improves I just don’t see the i5’s as having good headroom for the future even though slightly faster than Ryzen today. We saw how the old quad core i5’s suffered when games started needing more threads and that the i7 counterparts lasted much better (years). I really can see the same happening again with the current i5’s. Personally the choice is Ryzen 2600/2700 or i7, I wouldn’t go i5.
