Hello all,

I recently bought a laptop with 4GB RAM. However, im planning on upgrading to 8GB in the feature so i stick on 64bit windows.

However, i worried about my gaming performance. Just say current games like ass creed, battlefield & batman.

Will it effect the gaming performance?

And for additional question, what OS should i use on 4GB RAM?win 7 or 8?I heard that win 8 requires less RAM than 7.

Thanks for your help 😀

Solution
Just stick to 64-bit Windows 7 or 8. Windows 8 is better in RAM usage (it uses less memory) but it may cause some compatibility issues with older games. (Like Crysis 2 couldn't run well in Windows 8). Right now Windows 7 still the best OS for gaming.

Get another 4GB RAM anyway. 4GB isn't really enough for Windows 7 especially when u'r gaming. RAM is still cheap enough and another 4GB also do good to longer the productivity of your laptop (meaning u could use your laptop years longer without worrying the shortage of RAM or significant drop of the performance in everyday use)

Personally I like Windows 8 much better than Windows 7. That said either one will work just fine with 4gig ram. The really problem with gaming on a laptop will come down to the graphics performance. Unless you have a good discrete GPU on that laptop it will not matter how much ram you have because it's gaming performance will be bad any way. I can't really guess since you did not mention the make/model so it is hard to say how well it will perform.

Most of the games will do fine on x64 versus x32.

However, old software and older games will not necessarily tolerate x64 well.

It also looks like you've already decided on your upgrade path too. So you will definitely need x64 system be it Windows 7 or 8. Try Windows 8 first and then you can always go back to Windows 7.
