Hello everybody I've been having some trouble with my pc. The only thing new i've added recently was a crucial ssd 240g. The problem started about a month ago, my pc would turn on and off randomly-not often-maybe once a day for a week then it would happen once or twice a week. It would turn off while i have it on, and would turn on in the middle of the night while it's off and it goes to the BIOS.

Eventually it wouldn't turn on anymore so i figured my PSU was dead, i ordered a new PSU and got it to turn back on. I put my old PSU into my bro's pc and it worked perfectly fine. So the new psu was not needed but my old psu was a few years old so i figured time to update anyways. With the old psu still working fine in a different pc i new it was a psu issue anymore. Some time had passed with my new PSU in it and it started turning on/off again by itself randomly.

Last night it turned off by itself and had 0 power would not turn back on for an hour. eventually i came back and tried again and it booted to bios and worked fine again randomly. So last night i shut her off went to bed at around midnight, just this morning now I walk in here and it's sitting turned on in the BIOS again.. world clock says 2:36am currently so it must've turned on by itself around 2:15-2:20ish am this morning. Is my mother board bad or something? I know it's not my psu because it turns back on fine once it's had it's random episode of being broken and not turning on for an hour. Really confused about what's going on, hopefully one of you more technologically advanced people can help me :/ Thanks!

sounds like it could be the power button itself how old it the case? Make sure the front panel wires are not loose and in the right inputs, also if theres any screws or metal just sittiing in the case it could cause it not to start.

It sounds like a temperature related issue - could be the PSU, could be the CPU etc.
What's likely happening in that hour it won't turn on, is the components are cooling down to a safe temperature (although an hour seems like a long time).

What PSU did have/replace it with?

Just because a PSU runs another system, it's no guarantee it's "good". Each rig requires different power requirements & the PSU you had may do just fine running a lower-powered rig, or one that's not being pushed as hard.

Please post your full specs to give us a better idea.

it sounds very wired whats going on with your PC things I can think of that might have an affect or not as the case maybe lol. I think a surge protected gang plug from the mains too your machine maybe my first thought. Second would be too look for bios updates for your motherboard and install them see it fixes it. Third maybe not in this order but I think you should cheek the switch on your case maybe get a new switch if you can.

Specs-i5-4670k, asus z87k, evga supernova g2 750W, crucial ssd 240g, 8gigs ram, gtx 770. Just got a new case because i think my old case on/off button was not working either so I went with a new case the same time I got the new psu-2weeks ago. How do i check if the wake or lan is on as mentioned above? If it's a temperature issue-my pc is on pretty much all day playing games right now while semester is over, how would i check if it's a temperature issue? What should I start by doing first?

Went into the bios- couldn't find any wake settings but the temp was 47C idk if that's normal or not. What else can I do?

Edit: I went to device manager and under network adapters realtek pcie family controller properties, power management, "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" "Allow this device to wake the computer" They were both enabled and were enabled on the realtek PCIe family controller2 as well so i turned them all off. Could that be the reason why my pc turns on/off randomly? If so would that also cause it to not turn on for X amount of time if it's in the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" mode? Those two things answer the turn on/off randomly question but idk if they would cause my pc to not turn on for X amount of time when i try to turn it on... Thoughts?
