Having difficulties finding proper RAM for upgrading old one ?

Hey,

Well I did solved couple issues yesterday and today, problem with ram remains, so shell we begin..

I'm currently running 2x4GB sticks, different unfortunately
1) Kingston KHX1600C9D3/4GX - http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-KHX1600C9D3-4G/dp/B004JO3L0Y

2) Kingston 9905403-439.A00LF 4GB - http://www.memorybenchmark.net/ram.php?ram=Kingston+9905403-439.A00LF+4GB

So before you guys actually attack me that I shouldnt run 1600mhz ram with 1333mhz, or 1.65v with 1.50 I really dont have choice. This is since 3 years ago so lets pretend that this is kinda fine, please ? :ange:

Now I dont really have money for much, those 2 are running in dual channel, slots 2 and 4 since 1 is under evo212 and I was doing some tests so I didnt want to remove again that beast.

Second 1333mhz ram (9905403-439.A00LF) is unavailable for buy anywhere, KHX1600C9D3/4GX is also unavailable in my country for couple months already and I dont have money to pay for enormous taxes in my country from outside so basically I need to choose from our stores.

I'm looking for 1600mhz ram so basically I found
- DIMM DDR3 4GB 1600MHz Kingston HyperX Fury Blue CL10, HX316C10F/4

Which is only available ram for weeks already which looks like mine blue HyperX although its CL10. Does that matter ?

Second one which I found but its green old stylish is - DIMM DDR3 4GB 1600MHz Kingston CL11, KVR16N11S8/4

My question is, would buying 2x DIMM DDR3 4GB 1600MHz Kingston HyperX Fury Blue CL10, HX316C10F/4 work with mine already different RAM ? I've seen benchmarks so 1333mhz vs 2000mhz+ doesnt change even 1fps in 1080p gaming, I'm not bothered with that even if I need to keep all sticks on 1333mhz, once when I have money I would replace that one.

My second question is, can I upgrade ONLY 4GB's more and have 12GB's which wouldnt be dual channel obviosly ? And how much that affect performance in gaming only ?

Thanks

Solution
You motherboard supports the following speeds (assuming the CPU can too, and most can)

DDR3 Memory 1066/1333/1600/1866*/2000*/2133*/2200*/2400*/2600*/2666*/2800*/3000*(*OC) MHz

The I7-4770K can support memory that needs 1.65 volts. That is not a problem. But I would not go over that. From what I am seeing, after looking at the motherboard specs, the approved memory listing, and a few other things, your motherboard should be able to use almost any memory out there. The problem comes when mixing memory. You have 2 non-matching sticks now. The question becomes, Will those 2 sticks continue to work if you add a third memory stick, or even a pair of memory sticks, to the mix. Nobody will guarantee that setup. Nobody. The only way to know...
Hey MarkW again 😉
It's MSI Z87 G45 Gaming, trying to get 4gb's more in this PC and be safe since I'm doing Photoshop/Premiere a lot and I do have issues with Chrome especially not to mention new upcoming games.

It's G45 Z87 MSI Gaming mobo and i7 4770k. My 1600mhz ram is working on 1.50v on 1333mhz (due to my older ram) while with XMP I would use 1.65v (at 1600mhz) which is not recommended for i7 4770k and I have that nofitication in bios so I'm aware of that.

Not sure if supports 2133mhz but right now I'm dealing with 1333mhz.
It's enough but on limits, there are games which are using ~6gb of ram after some time and then if I'm livestreaming with chrome opened and couple more softwares I'm almost hitting limits. And if I can how much should I expect to lose from performance or it will remain same, assuming that new 1600mhz will be downclocked to 1333mhz aswel.

Thats why I asked is that ram which I mentioned fine to do combo with current ones and can I do 3 sticks instead dual channel.

These are not exact matches to what you want, but they are as close as the list shows.

................................DDR Speed Chipset Voltage S/D Size DIMM 1 2 4
Kingston KVR16N11/4 DDR3 1600 N/A 1.5V DS 4GB √ √ √
Kingston KVR16N11/8 DDR3 1600 N/A 1.5V DS 8GB √ √ √

Here is a link to the list.

I will be back in 30 mins... Want to check more things before I can tell you what will and wont work...

Thanks in advance, I'm not rushing anywhere. I dont see any of my current rams on the list but they are still working, weird. I usually test performance only through gaming benchmarks and I'm usually over or atleast on average scores based on other big websites, so I assume that its acceptable. But I'm noob here so I will wait for your response.

If this actually helps these are available rams and all prices for 4gb are accaptable in my case but as I stated I'm not under budget and I can afford only 4GB for now which will help me in terms of overall GB's in my work as long as 3 sticks doesnt lower my performance.

The only way to know is to buy the memory and try it.

Here is the other thing I would rather see you do. Instead of trying to add more memory to the existing memory, I would like you to stay at the 8GB point for now, and save up money until you can buy 2 x 8GB sticks, a matching kit, and then have you use those to replace the memory you have now. You can sell what you have now to get some of the money spent on the 2 x 8GB memory, and you will end up with faster memory and still only dual channel. I know you are trying to save money, but if you could find 2 x 8GB @ 1866 memory, at a decent price, your system would run faster. Maybe not a lot faster, but still faster.

But again... I am talking about spending money, and I do understand. I live on a budget too.

These are options for you. You should be fine with 8GB for awhile.
