Question I'm having issues with 120Hz on AOC Q27G4 monitor when connected to a PS5 ?

I'm using an AOC Q27G4 monitor with my PS5, and although everything is set up correctly (120Hz enabled on both devices, HDMI 2.1 cable, and monitor settings showing 120Hz), I don't feel the smoothness of 120 FPS in games. Has anyone else faced this issue with this specific monitor? Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Do you actually get 120 FPS in games?

Since while monitor may refresh the image at 120 Hz, but if you only get 60 FPS in games, then 60 FPS is what you're seeing.

While PS5, at max, can output 120 FPS, it depends on the game. Some games may run 60 FPS (or even 30 FPS).

Also, the smoothness you get depends a lot on personal feel.
E.g when i went from 60 Hz (60 FPS) monitor to 144 Hz (144 FPS) monitor, i could not almost tell a diff between the two. Games seemed a bit smoother but not clearly noticeably.

Most people see between 30-60 FPS, where anything faster than that, e.g 80/100/120/144 FPS - they can not perceive a difference.

We have a close setup but an ASUS Tuf monitor 27"

We did have to buy a better HDMI cable but the main points are below.

I can reference Resident Evil 7 and what we had to do to get the buttery smooth gameplay out of the PS-5.

On the PS-5 you have to go to Screen and Video ---Video output --resolution 2160p

VRR ( off )

120 Hz output Automatic

ALLM ( Automatic )

Video Output rate ( Automatic )

HDR ( Always on )

Deep color output ( Automatic )

RBG range ( Automatic ).


In game options menu Resident Evil-7 in this case

Display HDR Mode ( ON )

Graphics

Raytracing ( OFF )------ You can't have high FPS if Ray Tracing is on-----

High frame rate off is 60 FPS
High frame rate on is 120 FPS

So in a nut shell if Ray Tracing is on you get the 60 FPS

Frame Rate Mode ( ON )

We also tonight did a test of HDR with it on and with it off in game and it's buttery smooth ON and with it OFF it feels smooth with a side of sandpaper. Not bad but when we turned back on HDR was like when your walking in water with it off to when you step back on dry land with no resistance turned back on.

Yeah I get 120fps when I active the fps Counter in games but yeah as you've said maybe it's me cause I can't see much difference between 60 and 120hz like the difference I saw when switching from 30 to 60hz
