Having issues with 1Gbps internet

So, recently changed my ISP and got a new 1Gbps connection. The only problem is that I'm only getting 100mbps speeds.
-I do have a gigabit network card (from Intel).
-I have installed just about every driver I could find for it from Intel's website.
-I tried playing around with the settings and changing Speed & Duplex but with no success because every time I go to 1Gbps it says my cable is unplugged and when I switch to Auto Negotiation my speeds go to 100.
-I do have an Ethernet CAT5E cable.
-I'm pretty sure my router supports 10/100/1000 (I can't really check because it doesn't say anything about it on the manuals or on the internet but my ISP says so).
-I am 100% sure my PC specs can handle the speed.

What is the make and model of the router? Is there a separate modem involved or any other device in front of the router?

Is the network cable directly attached from the router to PC and not through a wall outlet or other type of interface? Have you tried a different cable?

Actually, you gave me an idea. The cable is attached from a wall outlet to my PC and it might be that the one inside is not CAT5E. I'm gonna connect the cable straight from the router to my PC and this way I can tell if it's either the router itself (even though it should work cause the ISP gave it to me) or the cable inside since I can't actually tell it's type.
I'll keep you posted.

Turns out it's a problem with the cable because when it's from the router straight to my PC there's no problem and I get the right speeds but when I use the outlet it drops to 100. Thanks for the help, I'll be switching it to CAT5E soon.

Good to hear that you found the problem.

You may want to check to see if it's a wiring problem inside the wallplates. You'll get 100Mbs with two pairs connected, but all four pairs (if available on the existing cable) are required for 1Gbs.
