Having Problems getting a 3rd monitor to work with Radeon HD 5700?

I am having problems getting my 3rd monitor up and running.

(a little backstory) I built a machine a number of years ago that was to be (basically) used just for recording. The video card (which may be an HD 6800 now that I am away from home and thinking about it, but pretty sure it’s a 5700), has 2 DVI, 1 HDMI, and on Display port. I had 2 Asus monitors hooked up through the DVI ports. I was trying to get another monitor (Dell) hooked up across the room next to the drumset, but was having a horrible time getting it to work. After a bit of searching, realized that I needed to go the DP rout with an adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0098HVXXY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and cable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KUWX8M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). It took a little maneuvering, but eventually worked. A couple of years later we moved…

I couldn’t get everything set up right away until I found the time to finish the room above the garage. In the meantime, the machine was updated to Win10. 2 years later, the room above the garage is finished and I was able to start setting things up. The 2 Asus are on the desk hooked up through the DVI ports. The room is larger and the drums are further away, so the old cable I had wouldn’t reach. I decided to go with an HDMI to DVI since there was an HDMI port on the card (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HVVGKL4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). Didn’t work. After some research I found out that the HDMI is on the same circuit as one of the DVI, so if using the HDMI port you can only use one DVI port. Thought that the DP adapter worked well last time, so got another (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005H3I38Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). Doesn’t work.

I have tried 1 monitor in DVI, 1 in HDMI, and I in DP… nothing. I have gone back to the old setup with the original cables… nothing. The card recognizes all 3 monitors (when I go into the AMD program), but it keeps telling me that it needs to disconnect one card before it will allow the 3rd to be connected (which totally defeats the purpose). Could Win10 have something to do with this? When I was having no luck, I thought maybe the drivers needed updated (which didn’t work). I am basically pulling my hair out trying to figure out why this doesn’t want to work again.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated…

"Thought that the DP adapter worked well last time, so got another (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005H3I38Q/ref=oh_aui... ). Doesn’t work."
That adapter is not active.

Why is my original setup not working? (Active adapter)

I've read other people say that, but I totally had 3 going for years before the move

Same cables... Would there be something that could have switched in the Radeon "app" when I updated drivers or something?

new "active" adapter worked... not sure why the old setup wasn't working, but at this point I don't care. Thanks!

can you share with me the details on the 'active adapter' that did work?
