So, my PC is all messed up and I have been using this macbook recently. I am trying to install Ubuntu on a blank disk so I can install it on my PC.

I tried following the directions at the Ubuntu website but I think there is something wrong. First off, I go into the Disk Utility and for some reason there are already four things in the column on the left below the DVD Drive. There is a "install_flash_player_osx_intel.dmg" file, a Flash Player that is a volume for some reason, a "Firefox 8.0.dmg" file, and a Firefox that is a volume also. I dont understand why Firefox and Flash Player have been turned into their own Volumes and are showing up here, I'm not even sure if it has anything to do with the problem, but all I can say is that on the instructions on the Ubuntu website there doesn't seem to be anything but the Ubuntu installation ISO file in that left column while burning.

Once I insert the 4.6 GB DVD+R Blank disk that I am using, I expect it to sort of drop down below the DVD Drive icon like it shows on the Ubuntu instruction page, but it doesn't. All that it shows is the DVD Drive. When I click on the DVD Drive it says "This disk cannot be erased in this drive". I dont really understand this, because the disk has nothing on it and I didn't think I needed to erase anything.

Finally, I drag the Ubuntu installation ISO over to the left column and right click to open the toolbar, and click "burn Ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386.iso", once I do that a message pops up saying "unable to burn Ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386.iso" (not recognized). I'm not sure what the problem is or why its not recognized. I also see on the Ubuntu instruction page that when I click on the Ubuntu installation ISO they have it on "restore" not "first aid" and it seems like they have dragged the ISO file into the space for "source". Again not sure if this is necessary or what the deal is.

Just wondering if someone could help me figure out what the problem is. I'm thinking maybe my disk is bad or something, but I'm really not sure.
