I bought a new ssd and I can't seem to figure out how to reinstall Windows on it. I kept reading things saying to disconnect all my drives except my ssd and disk drive so Windows would install on it. When I boot my computer, everything is fine but eventually it says "Comparability Report" saying I need to boot my computer normally and upgrade Windows. So I did. I spend a few hours last night downloading and installing it hoping today I could finish it. I disconnected all my drives again to try and install it on my ssd, and the comparability report happened again. So I booted my computer normally again and launched the Windows setup.exe again and it says I have old installation files and need to update them, the exact thing that I did last night. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Solution
Well I would get a later version of the windows install.

You can get the ISO with the mediacreation tool https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Download the ISO then use rufus to put it on a flash drive http://rufus.akeo.ie/

Put a flash drive in (if you want anything on it copy it, because Rufus will format it).

If the BIOS is UEFI select GPT for the partition, if it's non-UEFI select MBR. Add the ISO. Wait for it to finish. Reboot then boot from flash drive

I have tried booting my computer from my disk drive which has my Windows 10 install disk in it, and it works up until it starts to install, and the it brings up a Comparability Report saying I need to boot my computer normally, then insert my installation media.

I would have assumed that I have the latest version of Windows installed because I thought I upgraded it last night, but now I'm not sure. I'm just trying to get Windows onto my new ssd, and since it's from the disk, I think I'm trying to install version 1511 because that's what the managing says.

So just to be sure, just put the iso on the flash drive, boot from the flash drive, and it should bring me to the install wizard or whatever? And after that, just delete my other Windows that is on my other drive?

No you download the ISO with the tool then run rufus to put it on the flash drive. As above

The ISO isnt bootable, so you cant copy it to the flash drive as is. It wont boot / do anything

Once you've put a flash drive in a USB port, run rufus changed it to GPT or MBR, added the ISO, wait for it to finish copying the ISO to the flash drive.

Then reboot change the bootdisk in the BIOS to the flash drive. Boot from it, When you get to windows setup delete all partitions then install Windows.

If you want any docs, photos on the hdd, now is the time to copy them to something else. Because they wont be on the hdd after this

It'll reboot a few times. DONT press a key everytime it restarts. otherwise it'll start all over again. Let it continue

Until Windows is installed

Ok, I'll make sure to move all my big games to my other hard drive. Again, thanks for all the help! I had no clue what I was doing, in case you couldn't tell. Thanks!
