HD, 120Hz, widscreen...I need some help with a monitor.

I'm interested in how stressful 1080p and other HD resolutions are on a GPU. I'm beginning to wish that reviews contained performance for HD resolutions (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)...

Essentially my quandary is this...I intend, sometime in the near future to upgrade my monitor...Widescreen, 120Hz, HD...With the options available now and soon to come, I'm wondering what to buy or to wait for. I know that 120Hz monitors are due out in 2009 from samsung and viewsonic. But I'm interested in HD resolutions, and how stressful they are on a vga...anyone know anything useful about this topic?

Why?

1080p = 1920 x 1080 = about 11% fewer pixels than 1920 x 1200.
Look at 1920 x 1200 performance then increase it by 5% - 7% for 1080p.

I want to know what 1080p will play like if I get one...How much gpu power I need, and how much I need to spend every time gpu generations change to get decent framerates on my monitor...1920 might be too much, I think I'll just get a 1680 x 1050 probably.
