HD 6870 and Athlon II X4 640 Bottleneck?

Would an HD 6870 be bottlenecked to any appreciable degree with an Athlon II X4 640 (3.0 GHZ)? I don't plan on overclocking the CPU.

I think you'll be fine. Just monitor your CPU and GPU usage in game, those results should show you if there is a significant bottleneck.

Thanks for the response to this month-old thread that never got a reply from anyone else. I have gone with the GTX 650ti SSC 2GB instead. They are both similarly ranked cards at gaming. The Athlon II X4 has no issue with the card, just as you surmised. BF3 @ 1080p, on Ultra setting for example. And I just finished Crysis 2 (so I can play C3 next) at Extreme level with the Hi Rez Pak and DX 11... no problem keeping smooth frame rates at 1080p with that game either. (The Athlon II X4 is highly under-rated by some folks.)

I have the same processor and I'm looking to upgrade, I apparently have a bad habit of choosing games that are cpu intensive or something. Some of these games give me some issues with it such as, Guild Wars 2, ARMA 2, and I cant stream or record some games because of this being a somewhat weak processor.
