HD 6870, Enough Power?! :[

Hello,
Recently i purchased a HD 6870 1GB, But i'm not sure if it will run on my PSU. I have a Diablotek 450w PSU with 12v/30A. For the card, 500w is recommended. I dont know if i would have trouble running it with just my DIablotek 450w? What you think?.

You should be fine. An upgrade would be nice to 600W or more but 450 won't hurt it. As long as you dont overclock anything. But may I ask you why did you buy the 6870?

Why shouldn't of i purchased the HD 6870?.. I got it for a hell of a deal. 50$. I tested on friends rig, Works. Just making sure that if it would work on a Diablotek 450w. People are syaing that theres a really big chance that the PSU would blow and take components with it. Which im afraid of. Since it IS a cheap PSU. Just trying to find out if i would be safe on it untill i upgrade it?

Diablotek is shit. There is a high chance that it might not run.

Only buy PSUs from tiers 3,2, and 1. Upgrader101, I would check this if I were you so then you can learn about power supplies.

What's the minimum for the 6870? And yeah I personally would throw that PSU out. Buy a new one

Well, this is what the PSU will do:

Scenario one: No boot.


Scenario two: There's a bang and some sparks, maybe some smoke, and in the worst case: A fire breaks out.

I agree Diablotek is junk. And if it does fail, it might take out your motherboard and gpu or more

That said, it would probably "work" but please replace the PSU as soon as possible.

BTW Other then being last generation, there is nothing wrong with a 6870
