HD 6870 strange idling

Hi everyone,

Today I was playing BF3 and when I quit the game, I found my GPU (Sapphire Radeon HD 6870) was idling at 300 mhz core and 1050 mhz memory. It usually idles at 100 mhz core 150 mhz memory. The temperature was also quite a bit higher than usual when idling: 51 degrees. My drivers are up to date. This has happened once before but I can't remember exactly when. Does anyone know what is causing this?

did you wait a while and double check to see if your card clocked itself down later? BF3 is a game with many online components and it might just be taking a while to fully shut down...

also, when did this start happening/happen the last time? is it after you updated to the newest drivers (which do you have? AMD has multiple beta versions out atm). if it started happening after a driver update. I would roll back to the old one. though to be honest if this strange idling behavior's the only problem, I wouldn't worry too much

When you update your AMD drivers, do you remember to uninstall the old drivers first? It sounds like a driver issue. Although it could be the card itself. But I would try uninstalling the driver, then run Driver Sweeper in safe mode, and have it remove any AMD and Nvidia graphic driver remnants it finds. Before you do the above, you should clean your system of registry errors by running CCleaner. Do the Clean and Registry both.
