okay, so i've had an hd7850 from msi for over a year now and i want to get a second card to crossfire with it. Now the real question is this, can i crossfire my card with something newer like an r9 series card or nah?

or am i better off with buying a second hd7850 from le ebay or something?

any help is greatly apperciated.

Solution
the r7 265 is available for crossifre, same card only slightly overclocked.

This upgrade (I've done it) will put you just above the 7970 Hgz for performance.

Depending on the cooling in your case overclocking is an absolute must. Both the 7850 and r7 265 are monster overclockers.

850 stock and 1050 overclock is very easy, Mine in crossfire were running at 1100Mhz and 1150 in single card.
You could fit it with an R9 270x. There may be some modded driver of the sorts, but I wouldn't I would get two 270x as the 7850 will hold it back.
Anyways the best would be to just get another 7850, two R9 series cards or a single more powerful card (wich would be the best in my opinion since crossfired cards have their issues.

Radeon R7 265 2GB 256-Bit That's what I meant to say instead of R9 270x, Dammit sorry.

MSI or Sapphire are always some great choice. I'll let you choose mate.

Put the R7 265 in the first slot and the 7850 on the second slot.

okay, but im seeing a couple of good 7850's on ebay for around $100, and a new r7 265 cost about $150 before rebates. now im beginning to wonder if i the $50 will be worth it. lol i mean, i am a cheapskate but i do have money to get another card.

this isnt a priority at the moment but it would be nice to have since i know i wont be upgrading for a while.

I would personally get another 7850. You'd be sure to have no crossfire issues.
