HD 7850 vs GTX 660

This is my first PC build, and I have been looking into these 2 cards. I play games like Minecraft, various Source engine games like TF2 and CS:GO, and I would like something to run BF3 and BF4 along with Planetside 2. Medium-ish settings with at least 60 fps is my goal. I'm scared to try overclocking. I have a 650 watt power supply, and don't worry, I did my homework and I know that it has 6 pin PCI-E cables ready. I'm also afraid of a bottleneck- I only have an FX 6100. Can someone give me some insight on both of these?

I had both a 660 sc and a 660ti sc, Imo there crap. I currently use 2 7850s and Im impressed

the 7850 will give you better frames per second but in a couple games it still has frame latency issues....most games are fixed though....borderlands 2 is not one of them...anyways frame latency can make a fast frame rate look choppy. if your willing to wait for more driver updates and physx support does not matter to you get the 7850...if physx support does matter as it does to me or you don't want to wait for more driver releases to fix the remaining games affected by frame latency go for with gtx660

7850 beats the 660 sc but loose's to a single 660ti

the 7850 will give you better frames per second but in a couple games it still has frame latency issues....most games are fixed though....borderlands 2 is not one of them...anyways frame latency can make a fast frame rate look choppy. if your willing to wait for more driver updates and physx support does not matter to you get the 7850...if physx support does matter as it does to me or you don't want to wait for more driver releases to fix the remaining games affected by frame latency go for with gtx660

Really? I read everywhere that amd has this problem. Even them admitted that they fucked up on the latency and they gonna try to fix it.

The 650 Ti Boost (136%) tops the 7850 (134%), even on THG .... and since the 660 (154%) tops the 650.....

That puts the 660 15% faster than according to Toms.

I would vote 7850. From what I hear the 78xx series overclocks like a boss and it already beats the 660 in the first place. The 660ti maybe not but with an overclock, yeah.

i would go nvidia....i find amd drivers wonky for GPU's. i love their cpu's but i have had very very bad luck with their graphics.

They said "We've shared our results with Nvidia, and company representatives let us know they weren't able to reproduce our findings. This could be specific to our X79-based platform (we've been seeing an increasing number of X79-oriented issues lately), or perhaps related to Windows 8." And it was only on Crysis3. So i wouldn't worry too much about that.

Everyone's defending their own personal preference for a specific manufacturer and no one is giving true objective answers to the OP.

They have very similar performance. Any of them will do fine. Get the one you like the most or the cheaper.

IMO the 7850 is a boss Im falling in love with it. Remind me of the gtx 260

I own amd 7950 and had a 660 at one time so I am not biased to either company. I was very pleased with the 660 and according to benchmarks it is better than the 7850 but not as good as the 7870. If you can get the 660 or 7850 2gb for the same price then without doubt get the 660.

Only the 660ti beats the 7850.

If its a 660ti for the same price I would go with it. But in most cases the 660ti cost $50+ more

the 660 beats the 7850 easy unless you over clock it, I'm having the same problem as I'm upgrading from my 6670, 7850 (for me in the UK at least) is much cheaper and will over clock a hell of a lot more, putting it ahead of a stock 660, but I dont know how much the 660 over clocks so I can't comment on that
