HD 7950 vs GTX 670

ohai everyone, i am wondering if the GTX 670 is still a better choice over a 7950?
The versions what i'm talking about are the Gigabyte 7950, and the Gigabyte 670 2GB.

With latest drivers hd 7970 is faster than gtx 670 in most games.both are enough for your resolution to max games.

7950, but do yourself the favor of getting sapphires vapor-x version instead. A whole other ballpark...

You can easily overclock an HD 7950 to a 7970 spec. I have my running a Ghz on core, and 1500 memory without touching the tdp power slider in catalyst (still at 0% not +20%). The 7950 is an amazing card when it comes to overclocking. So that would be my recommendation for 1080p gaming. At your resolution though, you could most likely get by with a 7870. However, if money is no object a 7950 will keep you held over for ages at 1680x1050

I have the GTX 670 you're looking at. Fast and quiet. At that resolution, you won't have any problems.

From what I gather, you'll get the same results qualitatively with the AMD. Choose whichever you prefer, be it price or nvidia/amd preference.

you can't go wrong with either, but a top class card like the vapor-x costs what's equivalent to $100 less than a decent 670 here in Denmark.. makes it easy here 😉

Well as one that had a 7950 and switched over to a Gigabyte GTX 670 I wish I would have kept my 7950 as it was better in most every game. The only advantage the 670 has is Physx and that is in so few games it is not even worth it. Nvidia's surround video for 3 monitors is no where near as refined as Eyefinity and even worse on Windows 8.

But on the other hand since I dual boot Windows 8 and a Hackintosh OS X 10.8.2 I needed a card that would work good in both OS's and for that Nvidia was it for that. As far as I could tell OS 10.8.2 still does not have native drivers for the 6950 or 7950 cards yet were as the GTX 670 has native drivers and Cuda support. But for just Windows I would stick with the 7950.

Hes not asking about the 7970 though hes asking about the 7950 vs 670 though i agree get a 7970 if you can afford it.
