HD Audio Cable is Not Long enough to Reach the Outlet on Motherboard

(Maybe I was asking at the wrong place by posting it to the "New Builds" section. So I am moving it to the "CPU & Components" Section.)

When I use Micro ATX motherboards, it is not a problem at all.

Now that I have an ATX motherboard (MSI 970A-G46) and the JAUD1 connector is at the lower back corner while the HD Audio cable is coming all the way from the top front corner, the cable is about 1/2 to 1 inch too short for me to connect the HD Audio connector to the motherboard's internal audio outlet JAUD1.

What should I do now?

I found the HD Audio and the AC '97 have the same layouts. In other words, they both should be able to fit into the motherboard outlet. Should I plug the AC '97 to the outlet instead of the HD Audio?

Or is there any extension cables for this type of connection?

By the way, the computer case I am using is CoolerMaster Elite 371.

Also, how about the 3rd option: can I leave the front audio un-connected if I don't plan to use the front audio outlets?

Ac'97 will fit into the hd audio port, but it won't do anything. Of course you don't have to plug it in if you don't use the front ports. My one friend has never used them, and I didn't for a while either.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I just left it un-plugged. There is an S/PDIF audio outlet in the back panel, so i may not use the front outlets anyway.

I also noticed that for all the builds I have done in the past the front panels are mostly just above the middle of the case, so the distance between the front outlets and the ports on the motherboard is not that far away. This is the only one I have done so far whose front panel is right at the top of the case.

Mine or at the top of my case, I think it's more of a "thing" now because many cases are like that these days.
