I purchases a HP comp last year with a western digital green 1TB hd, everything has been fine, untill last week, we lost power and when my computer started back up the windows restore screen came on saying I had errors, I let it run and it fixed itself then a few days later it happened again but afterwards the computer ran fine.
Two days ago, out of nowhere I was recording some video(screen capture, the same program ive used since i bought the computer.) and my framerate completly dropped to 1 and bounced a little, went back up to 25ish but still froze my computer, as soon as i stopped the recording software my issues went away. I deleted some videos, hoping to help the problem because they get huge fast. Windows took a long time "discovering items", eventually I got them deleted and rebooted but the computer wouldnt boot up all the way so I had to do a hard system restart.
I updated my video drivers to make sure that wasnt the problem and the computer seemed to be working fine untill i tried to capture video again, and the framerates dropped again. I started reading and looking into my problem and it started sounding like hard drive failure. I downloaded the western digital diagnostics tool and it said smart status failed but it passes the tests.
The computer seemed to be deteriorating fast so i went and purchased a new western digital hard drive and plugged it with the intention of making a clone. I downloaded arcronis true image WD version and it kept failing as soon as i would start copying. This is where my expertise comes to an end so I have been searching and trying everything. I tried to clone the hard drive with the new drive having the exact same partitions, and no partitions, it fails as soon as i start.
During the process I rebooted and my system wouldnt start, after about an hour and some hard restarts my computer is running fine on the old hard drive but I still cant get acronis to make a clone. I just went to check the disk again with western digitals software and according to the program my new hard drive also fails SMART. I came to the conclusion that the program has an error.
So is there any way to know if my hard drive is bad or maybe some system files got corrupted? and if its bad whats the best way to make a clone? I know nothing of making a HD clone so any input would be appreciated.
