Question HD video editing with western digital studio edition as work drive

Hi I'm planning to get a MacBook pro and would like to know if I could use a WD studio edition as the main editing drive, via FireWire 800.
- Will it be fast enough?
- can I do RAID with 2 of them?
- should I choose LaCie instead?

What type of Mac do you have? Perhaps you have a faster port to plug into...

Planning to buy the latest MBP 15"

Don't think I can afford thunderbolt drives though...

All I can say is that you are probably better off than poor old me with USB 2/Firewire 400

If you can't afford Thunderbolt, you really don't have all that much choice.

RAID wise, you probably want a RAID-equipped Firewire 800 drive.
