Quotes from the Conclusion:
"A single Radeon HD 7990 has a distinct set of issues. Some can be solved; others cannot. The frame pacing issues pointed out in my launch story may very well be eradicated in the future. But the fact that AMD’s most expensive graphics card jettisons waste heat through its shroud won’t change."

"That takes us to dual-card configurations. The information we’re bringing to light flat-out kills any reason to pair Radeon HD 7990s up in the same system. And this is the best-case chassis, recommended by AMD. It only get worse/hotter from there."

"When it launched, a generous eight-game bundle had me on the fence about the 7990’s prospects. But after spending time evaluating its thermals and acoustics (to say nothing about its crashes and performance hiccups in CrossFire, which could become a story unto itself), I can’t think of one reason to recommend 7990 to a friend. And, at the end of the day, that’s what this job is all about."

While one 7990 is better than running two 7970's IMO be prepared to to into "no man's land" and you are on your own... Yes it sounds cool as you would be on the only kid on the block with that but "cool" can mean hours or days of trouble shooting. Stick to what works unless you have time on your hands.

I have a 7990 and it gives my AC a hard time, and in the winter my PC heats up my room to the point that I don't need a heater.

make sure with 2 7990 that you have an AC able to deal with the massive heat that is going to be comi9ng out of your PC, probably even have the AC blowing on it directly if possible

I wanted to do the same as you but when I got 1 I new I'd be insane if I got 2 of them, the heat would have me running my AC even in winter...

An AC blowing on it won't be as effective as proper cooling or a water cooling system for the card. The AC will cool the entire room (not the video card). Hence the stand up AC's they put in server rooms to deal with the heat build up. I used industrial fans to move the air in my room out but I am thinking of installing a stand up AC as it can get extremely hot with all the gear I am running.
